Photos: My New Purple Passion

Ooohhhhh..........and what is it about one of my fav colors, PURPLE and Passion.....Ooh la la......

OK, it's not about the new lingerie Hubby got me...;) ;P

But indeed it's about something Hubby got me from his recent business trip to the US........

May I present my darling Purple Passion Dell Netbook................

With matching purple optical mouse and lilac case

And Hubby set it up with the wallpaper of Oia in Santorini, where we had our honeymoon.....
The black line pointing to the villa we stayed in while in Oia.

Been using this netbook to online in the past weeks, and the last few posts were done on it, in different locations around KL. ;)

My New Collection Of My Beauty Diary Masks.....All The Way From Taiwan

My younger sis won a trip to Taiwan a few weeks ago to watch...*ehem....Khalil Fong's Timeless Concert, and though I am not into this singer.....I was actually more into getting her to do some shopping for me. Some shopping??? Only some?? Errr.....well, I gave a quite a long shopping list, but she only had time to go to Cosmed to get me some of the popular My Beauty Diary masks. She was there for basically 2 nights, and 1 whole night was already spent at Khalil's concert and the post-concert dinner.

Anyways, here's my little retail therapy from Taiwan, thanks to my sis....

5 boxes of My Beauty Diary masks, including the 2 new ones: Japanese Cherry Blossom and Mixed Berry, both in a box of 10 pieces, Pearl Powder (10 pieces), and White Peony Tea and Platinum Nanocolloid, both in a box of 6 pieces.

I was told that the masks were sold locally at some retail pharmacies but they were pretty expensive. But my sis got me all 5 boxes for RM121 (total 42 pieces of masks). She didn't break down the prices of each box for me, but I remember seeing "350 yuan(in Chinese character)" on one of the boxes, which I assume to be the price NT$350? Most of the info on the boxes are printed in Chinese and I can only read very simple Chinese. So on average, 1 piece of mask costs around RM2.88.

I haven't started using them as right now, I am still testing out Botani's organic skincare samples, and I shall be delegating some of the mask testing and review to my guest writer,
The Intrepid Beauty.

According to Joey, of Beauty Gossipologyst, and Wing, the Japanese Cherry Blossom (top pix) and the Mixed Berry (pix above) masks are their newest range and not yet available in Malaysia. Well, that was then, I am not sure if they are already available in Malaysia now.

White Peony Tea (top pix) and Platinum Nanocolloid (pix above) masks comes in a box of 6 each.

EOTD: Chanel Les Regards Eye Palette

I was at the Chanel makeup studio in One Utama new wing some time back and my friend introduced me to Moon, the Chanel makeup artist there.

Actually, it was my friend who was so excited to introduce me to the Chanel Les Regards palette which was an eye palette with 6 neutral colors, including for liner and brow. This was a special edition palette exclusive only to Chanel makeup studios. Unfortunately, Moon was 'hovering' over me and told me not to take photos. I tried googling the image of the palette but couldn't find it.

Anyways, let us see what Moon did to my eyes with that simple yet elegant palette which costs only RM165! I didn't get it at that time, as I was already starting to save up for all the upcoming Christmas collections!!!

Basically the palette has neutral colors of browns and dark browns and black. And Moon said it's good for doing smokey eye look and/or natural look. The colors can be played around with to enhance and define my eyes.....and that was just what she did.

Top photo: Moon made up my right eye, and you can compare it to my bare left eye.
Notice how my right eye appeared to be more defined and look larger?

Middle photo: Both eyes made up (under yellow lighting)

Pink Ribbon Highlights: Vonvon At Pink Talks

To be blogged soon...........

Pink Ribbon Purchases

During the Walk For World Pink, Estee Lauder was also selling some limited edition lip sets with the pink themed in line with the Breast Cancer Awareness Month and proceeds from the sale of some of these items go to different charities involved in breast cancer in total, that is 100% goes to charity.

And I bought the Elizabeth Hurley lip set which comes in a pink case with a lip pencil in Pink Writer, a Pure Color Crystal lipstick in Elizabeth Pink and a lip gloss in Pink lady. It costs me RM80 for this set.

I saw the pink tote as well which was sold together with a Pink T-shirt and a Pink Ribbon enamel pin. And I just couldn't resist......one of the reasons being they are PINK!!
This costs me RM50.

Pink Ribbon Highlights: Vonvon At Walk for World Pink 2009

The month of October is coming to an end. So here are some of the activities that I have participated so far in the Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

One of them is Walk For World Pink organised by Estee Lauder Companies.

As the saying goes, "A picture paints a thousand words". I'll let these photos tell you about my participation in the Walk For World Pink.........

Walk For World Pink at Menara Kuala Lumpur
Participants registering and getting their T-shirts, a buzzing of activities, including face painting, where there were makeup artists painting the Pink Ribbon on our faces!

I requested for the Pink Ribbon to be painted on both my cheeks!

The places we walked passed..........Hard Rock Cafe also had Pink Ribbons painted on their outlet's front glass!

Me and Kitty, a reader of mine
She spotted me while we were walking downhill and we both chatted all the way which made the Walk easier ;-)

October 3rd 2009 also coincided with the Mid-Autumn Festival and we saw a group of ladies carrying lanterns and lighted them up as dusk approached.

Review: Kiehl's Eye Alert (Eye Cream)

Panda eyes have long been a problem for me. I have problems with puffy upper eyelids and I would say moderately severe to quite severe dark undereye circles, depending on my sleep pattern. Nevertheless, dark undereye circles for me, has often been a problem, and I wouldn't even attempt to use too much of a concealer to cover them up anymore......just let it be.....

During one of my many visits to Kiehl's some time back, I inquired if they have any eye cream which was targeted at dark undereye circle problem, and one of the SAs gave me a 5ml sample of Kiehl's Eye Alert. It's actually part of the range for men. But she quickly told me that this eye cream, which has been proven to be effective against dark undereye circles, can be used for men and women. She also told me that the 5ml sachet could last me about 1 month with twice a day application.

So, I finished off my Estee Lauder Future Perfect Anti-Wrinkle Radiance Eye Creme, and decided to try Kiehl's Eye Alert. I had purchased the Estee Lauder eye cream early this year because I was rather concerned with some fine lines which were appearing around my eyes, and that was my main concern at that time. It worked as claimed on the Anti-Wrinkle part, but as for Radiance.....well, my dark undereye circles were as prominent as ever.

OK, fine lines being taken of, now it's time to address the Panda eyes issue.

Kiehl's Eye Alert

I squeezed the content of the sachet out into a small empty jar, and it was filled to the brim with the eye cream. (See pix below)

Well, it's not really a cream, as the texture of the product is very light, and of gel-like consistency. I applied it twice a day, morning and before going to bed, and the whole jar lasted me 27 days. Yes, I started using it on Sept 16, and I was literally, scrapping the bottom of the small jar by Oct 12.

Product Description: EYE ALERT, Energy Booster to Combat Puffiness and Dark Circles
Our ultimate solution for eye-area fatigue after a long flight or a long night, our formula is made with cooling Cucumber and Alfalfa Extracts to energize and hydrate the thinner skin of the eye area. Its potent blend of Vitamin E and Caffeine fights fatigue as it helps combat dark circles and puffiness. With regular use, skin appear strengthened and the look of fine dehydration lines is reduced.

For all skin types.

Key Ingredients: Vitanol (Alfalfa Extract). Cucumber Extract. Vitamin E. Caffeine.

Complete ingredient list

Directions: Gently pat around and under eye area morning and night, or as needed.

Vonvon says........

I applied a small amount of the gel with my ring fingers, gently patting it on my upper and lower lid area. I even added in a light gentle massage, supposedly to aid in drainage of water retention which was causing my eyes to look puffy.

The gel had a very light texture, and a slight 'green' cucumber scent which I found to be quite refreshing and upon application on my eye area, it gave a cooling sensation (from the cucumber extract which is known to have cooling and soothing properties). It was not oily nor sticky at all and absorbed quite rapidly.

My very first application of this was at night before bed time, and the next morning, I woke up to find the dark circles under my eyes had significantly reduced. All right, could it be just a fluke?

I diligently applied the gel twice a day for the next few days and day-by-day, I noticed that the dark circles had diminished further to just barely visible. I judged the improvement to my dark underye circle based on my needs to apply concealer to the undereye area. During the day, after applying makeup base and foundation, I didn't see the need to apply concealer to camouflage the panda eyes anymore.

With the diminishing dark circles, I also noticed that the fine lines appeared to be lessened and my eye area in general was brighter and definitely made me look more awake in the mornings. My upper lid area appears less puffy as well.

2 of the key ingredients in this product are Cucumber extract and caffeine, which have been used as DIY remedy for dark undereye circles and even puffy eyes. But instead of having to cut chilled cucumbers and place them on your eyes for 10-15 minutes, or to look for tea bags (for the caffeine) to be placed on your eyes, with this cream, you will just need a few minutes to apply it and reap the benefits which is quite long-lasting.

The product description mentioned about relieving eye-area fatigue after a long flight or long night. Long night, yes, had too many of them, even during the time, I was using this product. And I didn't notice any worsening of my dark circles, but just merely decreasing slowly day-by-day. What about long flight? Well, haven't been doing any traveling since last winter....and don't think would be doing any traveling before the year ends, even though the threat of H1N1 seems to be lesser these days. Anyways, the next time I go on a long-haul flight, I will surely bring this along to test it out, and see if I would arrive at my destination, appearing wide awake! ;-D

This eye gel comes in a 15ml tube and retails for RM85 at Kiehl's outlets. I like the tube form, and I know many of you also prefer the tube form, especially for hygienic reasons.

Based on the very affordable price and its effectiveness, I would definitely re-purchase when I finish using my current eye serum and eye cream.

Sample Reviews: Botani Olive Repair Cream, Olive Hand Cream & Olive Soothing Cleanser - By The Intrepid Beauty

Recently, I have received 2 sets of skincare and hand cream samples from Nature In A Box, a company which carries an organic skincare brand from Australia - Botani, in Malaysia.

My guest writer, The Intrepid Beauty, had tested out her set of samples and will be the first to review them. Well, I have started using the samples I got, but as Sundays are usually dedicated to my guest writer's posts, reviews on my set of samples will follow in a few days' time.

********************************************************

1) Olive Repair Cream
Sensitive/Dry/Ageing Skin

This product sample was contained in a 3ml sachet (see pix above) and was enough for 3 days usage applied twice daily. It has a pleasant yet not overpowering olive scent which I liked. It absorbed well and upon application, skin instantly felt smooth and supple which remained so for the most part of the day. The description of the product usage is described on the sachet "Apply small amount on to palm. Apply evenly onto skin using patting, pressing movements".

However, as there was no further description of the product on the sample sachet, I had to find out more about it on the Botani website. Some of its benefits are stated as "softens fine lines, repairs and protects from harsh environmental elements". It goes on further to state that it "assists in the healing of scars and rejuvenates the skin". I liked the fact that some of the ingredients as stated on the sample sachet includes aloe vera, citrus seed and olive leaf extracts, chamomile, calendula & French Lavender as these are not only calming and soothing for the skin, together they combine to produce a lovely scent.

I am unable to comment on the long term effectiveness of the product based on a 3ml sample but if you are looking for a face product with aromatherapy benefits, then this is a good product to try.

The full size product as shown on their website is 120g (in a jar) and the price of this product in Malaysia is RM159.50 (based on Nature In A Box website).

2) Olive Hand Cream

This is my favourite product of the 3 samples that I was given to test out as a little of it goes a long way. It has a predominantly olive scent although the ingredient list of this product (on their website) states that it includes the nourishing properties of sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, calendula, chamomile and Vitamin E. It does not feel sticky on the hands, is easily absorbed and what I liked best about the product is that it does not have the artificial smell of olives as in some other brands' olive hand cream I have tried.

The full size product as shown on their website is 100g (in a tube) and the price of this product in Malaysia is RM88.50.

3) Olive Soothing Cleanser

This cream cleanser has a light olive scent which does not sting the eyes. However, the sample of this product was given in a 3ml container but it was only half-full so this review is based on a 1.5ml sample which I found insufficient to cleanse my face thoroughly of make-up. I had to use another cleanser to finish the job and there was still a lot of make-up residue on my face which came off upon applying the 2nd cleanser. The good thing about this cleanser is that my face did not feel dry afterwards and there was no tightening sensation.

The full size product as shown on their website is 100ml (in a bottle with pump) and the price of this product in Malaysia is RM106.50.

Anyone Ever Dreamed Of MAC?

I managed to have a sneak peek at MAC's Holiday Collection a few days ago and guess what happened?? I am just so enthralled by more than half of the stuff in the Magic, Mirth & Mischief Collection and Mischief Makers that I have been having 'nightmares'....err.....OK, not horror ones, but at least, Magic, Mirth & Mischief has been appearing in my dream for 2 consecutive nights with all the bubbles and glitters and tinsels and ringing of the bells.........

All right, I know this doesn't sound quite sane to some of you......but really, my sleep had been really disrupted with these images appearing while I am asleep. I told this to my hubby...*ehem....hint hint....

Never have I any kind of similar dream, that is dreaming of some makeup collection. I mean I have dreamed of my beautiful island holidays, pristine white sandy beaches, etc...but a makeup collection?? Never before!

Perhaps, it's the mystical elements and how the photos of the collection were represented that really charmed me.

Anyways, I already had my eyes fixed on quite a number of items from this collection........

Stay tuned!

Most Recent Retail Therapies...

I have not been writing too often lately. Some of my dear readers are rather concerned and have emailed me to inquire how I am doing. Thank you all for your concern and support. I am OK, but just been absolutely busy and caught up with too many stuffs which are just too long to detail them one-by-one here.

Anyways, you must be wondering that despite my lack of new posts lately, have I been giving myself the retail therapies which I so rightfully deserved? ;-)

OK, I did some shopping for the past month....but perhaps, in a more controlled manner.

So, let's take a look at the 'treatments'...........

From MAC Style Black Collection......
Well, I had wanted to buy more, but by the time I got myself to my fav MAC store, only the Mineralize eyeshadow, Gilt By Association, was left. It was one of the 3 Mineralize eyeshadows from this collection I has planned to get initially. The other 2 were Young Punk and Blue Flame. :( Let's just hope that at some point in future, MAC would repromote them in their future collections.

MAC Style Black Mineralize Eyeshadow
GILT BY ASSOCIATION (RM75 for 2.2gram)
(with flash)

(without flash)

I have been paying more attention to Korean beauty brands lately, thanks to my friend's ravings on certain brands and their products. And since Etude House has a sale of up to 50% off on selected products, I took the opportunity to buy the eyeshadow stick and liner duo after playing with my friend's. And found that the color pay-off was quite good and the shadow/liner glides on really smoothly on my lids. And I also got myself a duo fiber face brush, my 1st ever.

I bought all 3 shadow stick/liner duos they have.
They were on 50% discount. Original price: RM39.90 each.
And I bought one of their latest masks, Pearl Mask, just to top up to a little over RM60 to get myself 2 stickers.

Since I haven't owned any duo fiber brush before, and I happened to see one for a reasonable price at Etude House, so I just bought 1 to try.

P.S. I didn't write down the prices for some products mentioned here because I can't recall the prices and I couldn't find the receipts of my purchases right at this moment of writing. I think it's better for me not to write down the prices which I am not sure of, than to mislead my readers with the wrong pricing of the products.

Last, but not least, I saw Janice, of Seek For Beauty, have an eyeshadow palette with 120 colors. So I asked her help to buy that palette for me which costs RM70!

Wow!! 120 colors!!!
Factor that and how many EOTDs can be made out of this palette?
INFINITE!!!

Double Premiere on AOD Tonight

It's that time of the year again where TVB would be screening its Anniversary Drama(s), and tonight 2 dramas will premiere on AOD, ie: BEYOND THE REALM OF CONSCIENCE (with Michelle Yim, Charmaine Sheh and Tavia Yeung among its cast) and BORN RICH (the great cast include Gallen Lo, Ray Lui, Jaime Chik and Kenix Kwok).

And ain't I supposed to be seated on my couch with my eyes transfixed to my TV right now???

Huh, well, I am still not home yet. Been out since lunch time and just slowly winding down from a busy day.

OK, just a short post to let my readers know that I am still here......and some ramblings on one of my many interests, that is Hong Kong TVB dramas!

Review: L'oreal Revitalift Face, Contours & Neck - By The Intrepid Beauty

The Intrepid Beauty will review L'oreal's latest Revitalift Face, Contours & Neck this week and compare it to 2 other types of neck cream in the market she had used before.

*************************************

Prior to purchasing this product, I'd used 2 other skincare products specifically for the neck, namely Shiseido's Benefiance Concentrated Neck Contour Treatment and Clarins' Advanced Extra-Firming Neck Cream. It was timely when L'oreal had the buy 1 product, get the 2nd one (similar product) at 50% off promotion at several major pharmacies a few weeks ago otherwise it'd have cost me RM79.88 for the 50ml bottle. I didn't notice any difference in the depth of lines on my neck after using the Shiseido & Clarins neck creams so I decided that I'd had enough of spending a bomb on another similar product and tried a L'oreal skincare product for the first time.

My first impression was that I liked the packaging as the bottle is so much more travel-friendly than the bulky tube of Shiseido Neck Contour Treatment and as for the Clarins Neck Cream, the bottle was so heavy that if you threw it at someone, you'd cause grievous bodily harm (see pix below). The Revitalift container is so lightweight and nicely shaped that you can throw it into any cosmetics bag and it won't take up much space. Of course the fact that the product is dispensed via a pump is an added plus for me as I do dislike opening up a jar and scooping out the product with my hands. The good thing is that there is even a lock mechanism on the bottle so that there are no accidents should you be carrying it in your cosmetics bag.

I use about 1-1 1/2 pumps of the product and massage in an upwards motion from the decolletage up to the chin. I spread any extra product on the lines around my mouth. I find that it absorbs very quickly and the less severe lines around the collarbone are softened. It's too early days to confirm that it's done anything to improve the severity of the deeper lines around the neck but so far so good on the little creases. I've only been using this product twice daily for the past 3 weeks and I don't expect miracles like for the more severe lines to disappear after I finish using this product but if that really happens, you can be sure I'll be back here to let you know!

According to the product brochure, the skin benefits are as follows:-

Deep firming and recontouring action on face, contours and neck.

With Vitafibrine to fight against skin's elastin fibers network distortion.

Formulated with 2x more Elastin (than the Revitalift Day Cream) for increased skin elasticity and firmness.

Contains Pro-Retinol A Forte to stimulate cell renewal.

My one and only grouse is that I am not too fond of the scent, I found it overpowering when I first started using the product and although I have since become accustomed to it, I still wouldn't say that I like it. I'm not averse to scents in any products, in fact I prefer scent to no scent at all since certain scents can be quite relaxing but opinions may differ and you may find the Revitalift scent to be up your alley.

If I find that it's effective in reducing the depth of the deeper wrinkles around my neck after I finish the bottle, I'd repurchase, scent notwithstanding. Do give this product a go if you (like yours truly) are concerned about a neck that has seen better days!

Happy Deepavali
to everyone who is celebrating
&
Have a good weekend!

Sisley Promotion At Midvalley South Court

The brand Sisley would probably ring a bell in some of you as a very high-end skincare and cosmetic brand and indeed IT IS!

However, when I was at Midvalley Megamall a few days ago, I came across some promotions by this brand at the South Court area which will be on till 20th October 2009. This promotion is actually held in conjunction with the 10th Anniversary celebration of its anti-aging range, the Sisleya range.

There is a makeover promotion whereby you purchase a voucher of RM200 and you'll get:
- A full makeover and hairdo
- 1 Instant A4 portrait by professional photographers
- Instant redemption of RM180 against purchase of Sisley products
- A complimentary Sisley door gift worth RM120

In my personal opinion, this is a very good deal, as some other brands charged even more for a makeover but the redemption value was less, for eg: RM250 voucher, and redeemed only RM200.

See photos of the flyer below for more details.

Click on the images to enlarge

In addition to the makeover promotion, there are also other exclusive value offers with great savings which will be available during this promotion.

For any of you who is interested to try Sisley or planning to do your X'mas shopping early and want to indulge your beloved ones with some really special gifts this holiday season, take a look at these irresistible offers and the great savings you'll make..........

So, if you'll be heading towards Midvalley this weekend, do drop by and check it out! And their SAs are quite a friendly lot. The SA, Yen, a new staff, sweet young girl, is very pleasant and helpful and NOT pushy. She has good product knowledge despite being with Sisley for only 3 months. Also the more senior SAs, known as Beauty Advisors, are also very friendly and helpful. Even their counter manager, Jesslyn, came and spoke to us and patiently answered all our questions regarding the brand and its products.

We ended up with some samples to try out. I'll be reviewing the samples I received after trying them out in the coming weeks.

Note: Photos are courtesy of Sisley and reproduced here with their permission.
And this is NOT a paid post.
