Photos: Victoria's Secret Beauty Goodies & Freebies

OK, today's been quite a busy day for me, despite my little girl is at my mom's. And I didn't really have the time, or rather the attention span, to sit down and write a post today. Things just kept coming up, and gotta go here, there....

So, more pix today.....

I have had this for a while now. In fact, it was purchased last year during one of the Victoria's Secret website sale.

Victoria's Secret PINK Energizing Body Wash and Body Lotion, and Soothing Hand Cream
It's the organic bodycare range from VS Pink Beauty line.

GWP from Victoria's Secret Beauty Purchase
I don't remember how much purchase was needed to get this, well, it's not only a bag, but this little tote bag is full of goodies and samples inside. As I can recall, to get GWP from Victoria's Secret or even Bath & Body Works, only a very small amount of purchase is required, eg: minimum purchase of USD25, or sometimes, more, but rarely more than USD50. And the freebies you get, usually samples, are in huge quantities.
Speaking of value for money!

Inside the little pink tote bag, are all these samples, and even a full-sized Beauty Rush lipgloss.

GWP from Victoria's Secret Beauty purchase
Some brands are available here in Malaysia, like Clarins, but I think most are not. And I am glad it has a sample of Too Faced Shadow Insurance(TFSI) in it.

OK, ladies, I got to go.......it's my Dad's birthday today and we are going for dinner.....:D

Photos: Summer In Greece

Hello, ladies! A late but hopefully productive start to my day. Got to sleep in this morning. ;D

Anyways, before I go for my lunch, so what's "Summer In Greece"? ;) Photos of my Greek honeymoon from years ago?? Nay!!

But it's a gift from hubby, which could be *hint hint of a vacation coming up??

Hubby got this from the recent Korres Sale, consisting of a sunblock with orange scent, a Watermelon body scrub and Yogurt Cooling Gel.......and a bright sunny yellow toiletry bag.
Errm...... coming vacation or not, I have already started using these products, as we are having a real scorching summer right now ;)
And loving it!!!

Will talk more later.................

EOTD/FOTD: Dior 5 Couleurs Couture Colour Eyeshadow Palette #804 Plus Capture Totale Skincare & Foundation

Having a lazy but chaotic Monday from my little girl's waking up tantrum this morning. And my ever-increasing in frequency mid-day energy slump does not help much either.

Anyways, that aside, I am still very excited because I want to share with you my simple makeover by Dior I had last Saturday with the gorgeous 5 Couleurs Couture Colour Eyeshadow Palette #804 (pic below) consisting of none other than my fav purple and pink shades!

It was actually a Dior consultation event for the NEW Diorsnow D-NA Reverse Night Serum at their counter in Robinsons. And after that, my eyes just got hooked to the palette, was swatching it when the nice SA there offered to let me try it out.

What was supposed to be a simple trying out of the palette, the sweet SA decided to put on some skincare and foundation for me as well. She said what's the point of having nice eyes, but the face was not prepped up. Well, 'cos I was at another skincare workshop earlier in the morning, hence, my face was pretty bare.

In a way, it's a good thing as I got to try out the Capture Totale skincare range again, including the makeup base and the serum foundation! I am awed by the instant lifting effect after the skincare and foundation application. Need to save up for my new Dior skincare regime already.............

You can see in the before and after photos below.

Before
Go ahead, go nit-picking on my bare face....lines, pores, blotchiness, chubbiness....what else, craters (got meh?) ;P

After the makeover
Noticed the more sculpted jawline, brighter and more luminous complexion....an overall more defined and sharper look.

Eye Of The Day
This is just a quick guide to the EOTD based on what the SA had explained to me. I didn't do this look hands-on.

- Apply Dior Skinflash Radiance Booster Pen on my lids as a base, and the SA even applied to the areas on my face that needed to be highlighted.
- Apply the Bright Pink shade from #804 palette(top left shade) to the lids from inner corner to midway.
- Apply the one and only Purple shade in the palette from the outer corner inward to meet the pink, and blend it. But since I couldn't see much contrast as the purple was 'overshadowed' by the brightness of the Pink shade, the SA suggested to add a darker shade of eyeshadow on top of the purple. She used the black eyeshadow from 2-Couleurs Eyeshadows #065 to darken the Purple shade.
- For highlight, she used the Light Pink shade, the one in the middle of the palette.
- Then she did my brows, and lined my eyes with a pencil liner at first, and added a liquid liner on top of it.
- Dior Extase Mascara (smudge-proof) to the upper and lower lashes. DONE!

Err....but I couldn't recall which blush did she use......it's a coral shade one.
And on my lips, is Serum de Rouge #640 Soft Pink Serum.
The shade of the Capture Totale Serum Foundation used on me is #023.

Face Of The Day

*All the photos above were taken indoors under the beauty hall lighting.

Face Of The Day

Some words on the #804 palette........based on my 1st impression only, yea?

All the 5 shades in this palette are quite pigmented but it has a small amount of fall-out, not too much. You can mix and match the colors any way you want, but the SA recommended to use the shades in diagonal way of combination, ie: Bright Pink, Purple and Light Pink, and Dark Grey, Light Grey and Light Pink. The Light Pink shade in the middle is the highlighter shade. My favorites are, of course, the Bright Pink and the Purple. The Bright Pink swatches, well, a bright pink on my hand, but on my lids, the pink looked slightly lighter. Overall, the color pay-off is good, but the colors are on the sheerer side with some shimmer. The palette retails for RM193.

Ladies' Night Out.......
And on that same evening, I got a call from a friend of mine, who asked me out to dinner with her and to meet her other friends. Hesitated at first, cos I always have dinner with my little girl and family these days, but then, what the.....I was already nicely made up, my girl happily playing at her grannies', so I went out and had dinner with other tai-tai's lor.....:D

Photos: More Korres Goodies & Some Lounging Clothes

Here's some photos of the goodies I got from Hubby a few weeks ago when he got back from a trip.............

Korres bath and body products, and lip butters too, plus some free samples from their Wild Rose range.

Some lounging clothes, err....as in sleepwear that 'kin tak yan' la ;P
(translated as "can let others see" ;P)

OK, ladies, working on some more serious posts now.......
Perhaps a little coffee break from work??

Review: Kiehl's Gentle Foaming Facial Cleanser - By The Intrepid Beauty

Kiehl's Gentle Foaming Facial Cleanser

I received a 30ml sample of this product (pic above) and was looking forward to using it as I love foaming cleansers. However, I was soon to discover that this product is a misnomer as it doesn't foam at all. It should best be described as a creamy cleanser which while it makes my skin smooth and soft upon application, doesn't work that well to remove make-up, let alone eyeshadow. To be fair, the product description doesn't say that it is meant for removing make-up. It merely states that it is formulated for a normal skin type or skin which tends to be somewhat dry or sensitive. It goes on further to state that it is intended to be removed with water.

When I compare it to my other foaming cleansers, i.e. Estee Lauder's Soft Clean Moisture Rich Foaming Cleanser, Clinique's rinse-off foaming cleanser or Shiseido's Brightening Cleaning Foam, Kiehl's Gentle Foaming Facial Cleanser is a disappointment as the other foaming cleansers not only produce a mass of rich lather with just a minute amount but they all cleanse make-up really well. With the Kiehl's Gentle Foaming Facial Cleanser, you have to use more than a dollop of product and even then, it doesn't get every bit of foundation off your face but I guess it is an adequate cleanser if you have nothing on your face.

The texture of this cleanser is thick and as I have described in the 1st paragraph, very creamy. It's definitely gentle enough for the most sensitive of skins but it's just not something I would purchase as I need something stronger. The bottle isn't that user-friendly as you have to squeeze out the product as there is no pump. With cleansers of such consistency, I would prefer a pump to dispense the required amount. This cleanser comes in two sizes, 125ml (RM50) and 250ml (RM75).

Looking For A Place To Chilax Today??? Here's One..........

It's Saturday again and another full day waiting ahead of me......sigh........really feeling the strain now......

Just feel like going to some place quiet and cozy, curl up with a book in hand or go online and a cuppa, or may be a glass of icy cold drink (for our current oven-hot weather)..........some place homey enough yet I don't have to clean up and do the dishes thereafter!

I have found just the right place for me, and even you, to do just that!

I Love Koffee, a new concept cafe in Bandar Menjalara
It's like a home away from home

It prides itself with the concept of "A private space in a public place"

A lounging corner to chill out with your friends and have your afternoon tea, while surfing the net (The cafe offers free Wi-Fi)

Another cozy corner

My little girl enjoys hanging out here....

Food, oh, glorious good......
Prices for F&B starts from as low as RM4.90
And they have a wide selection of Iced Luv cold drinks!!!

Review: Dior Capture Totale One Essential Skin Boosting Super Serum......INDEED!

What I am going to share with you today, I believe, or rather I couldn't believe, is such an effective product that it actually got rid of some lines on my face that I have already given up on. Well, yes, I may not be of that age to need anti-aging products yet, but hey, prevention is better than cure, right? And yes, I am a 'frowner' ;) or perhaps a 'thinker', constantly thinking and deep in thoughts, hence, I have quite prominent vertical wrinkles on my forehead, between my eyebrows. Not only were they visible (note: were!) but they were quite deep set lines. If you looked at the photos of my previous EOTDs, you may notice the lines between my eyebrows. I made no attempt to hide them, though sometimes, they weren't quite visible in some photos.

Anyways, before Vonvon shows you some sort of 'miracle', let's take a look at the product behind the 'miracle'!

OK, just very quick info...... (Product Description, summarised by me from a whole booklet of info)

Capture Totale One Essential Skin Boosting Super Serum is the 1st fundamental anti-aging treatment by Dior. It helps our skin to detox, by eliminating billions of molecular toxins which accumulate in the different layers of our skin as a result of external and internal aggressors, such as pollutants from the environment; stress, unbalanced diet, unhealthy lifestyle, one of which, I am always guilty of - sleeping late!

Then, there is our organism's own natural proteolytic system, the Proteasome, which helps in ridding off those cellular toxins (by elimination and recycling of toxins into new healthy proteins), but with time as our age catches up, its activity slows down. This leads to doubling of the amount of toxins accumulated as we age. The more toxins there are, the slower cellular repair process will be.

And how does the Super Serum work?
Dior utilizes their star ingredient, which forms the basis for the CAPTURE TOTALE technology, the extract from Longoza plant (from Madagascar). The patented Perle de Longoza(TM), is enriched with a natural extract of Laminaria algae, Detoxynile(TM), which is capable of activating the Proteasome (which declines in its activity as we age). By activating the Proteasome, the cellular detoxification process is increased, thus more toxins are either eliminated or being converted into new healthy proteins. With less accumulation of cellular toxins, the process of cell rejuvenation and cell repair is enhanced.

Are you still with me, my dear readers? Because I am beginning to feel lost in the sea of my own words......

So, what about the product itself?

Dior Capture Totale One Essential Skin Boosting Super Serum is housed in a deep red bottle which signifies the red of power, excellence and passion that presided over the creation of ONE ESSENTIAL. A touch of silver metal on the bottle underlines the technological dimension, while the pump allows for precise and practical dosing each day.

The serum itself is a white lightweight essence with a fresh scent. My little girl describes the scent as "so fresh and green", and she likes to sniff the serum whenever I pumped it onto my palm.

I use 3 pumps each for day and night after my toner. Inhaling the scent deeply, I spread the serum on my fingers and apply it, first to my cheeks from the sides of my nose outward to my ear region (this according to the Dior skincare expert is to facilitate the lymphatic drainage), then on my forehead swiping outward from the midline, nose, and finally the neck in a downward motion from the chin to the decolletage. Anatomically, these are the ways our lymphatic drainage flow and it helps in elimination of toxins.

After applying the serum, my skin feels cool and soft to touch and appears brighter. Applied at night before bedtime, I wake up the next morning with a radiant complexion.

I am always grateful that till this day, my skin has not given me much problems, except for those dull skin days and occasional break-out. But as I have mentioned above, because of my habitual frowning, I ended up with quite deep, almost permanent vertical wrinkle between my eyebrows. And after using the serum for a few weeks - about 3 weeks (started using on Feb 1, 2010. So, I have been using the serum for more than 7 weeks, at time of writing), I began to notice that those vertical wrinkles were not so visible anymore. And when they do appear (as wrinkles), they quickly lose their depths - for example when I frown on purpose, the lines appear, but after I stop frowning, the lines seem to have disappeared, as compared to previously, where the lines would remain. Until today, I always try to feel for the deep set lines between my eyebrows, but it seems the deep set lines are not so deep anymore. And besides having brighter and more radiant complexion, my 'chubby' jawline seems to be lifted too (objectively, skin is tauter and 'more difficult to pinch')!

Let's see the before and after photo........

Please click on the photo to enlarge

Above (before): The 2 black arrows pointing to the deep set lines. And my skin was a bit dull and the skin texture was not so fine.
Below (after): Where are the lines??? And my complexion is more radiant, luminous and the skin texture appears to be more refined.

*Please note that both photos were taken without makeup on, not even sunscreen or makeup base. Just plain bare face of mine. NO photoshop because I don't know how to use it and don't even have that program in my netbook.

And more solid evidence came from a Dior skincare expert herself, whom I met during the Dior One Essential Workshop last Saturday (March 20, 2010). I spoke to her after the workshop, sharing my experience of using the One Essential Serum and she even 'scrutinized' my face closely and I pointed to my forehead and she just said she couldn't see any line at all!!

So are you convinced now that this indeed is a Super Serum which is really effective and does what it claims to do?

A 30ml bottle of this serum retails for RM360 at all Dior counters.

Sample Review: Kiehl's Creme de Corps Soy Milk & Honey Body Polish

Body scrubs are one of my favorite bath products. Simply love the soft smooth feeling on my skin after doing a scrub.

Here's a quick review of Kiehl's Creme de Corps Soy Milk & Honey Body Polish. I received this sample when I was making one of my many Kiehl's purchases some time back. And I dug it out from my sample stash a few days ago and had a good scrubbing with it!

This body polish has just the right ingredients for my tastes! Pure Honey and Soy Milk! It's a thick creamy scrub with fine exfoliating granules, which does gentle yet thorough exfoliation leaving my skin so smooth with a slight sweet milky scent....somewhat making me smell a bit like my little girl when she was a baby. ;) The Shea and Jojoba butters in it help to keep my skin moisturised afterward.

Unlike the Kiehl's Gently Exfoliating Body Scrubs, the scrubbing granules in this Body Polish are much finer, well, it's a body polish after all. So for those of you who prefer to have gentler body scrub, you might be interested to try this out.

Though a word of warning, if you are not into milky scent, then you might want to avoid this, as the dairy scent can be a bit overpowering for some.

This sachet is only 5ml, and I finished it just with one time usage.

It is available in all Kiehl's outlets in a tube of 200ml, but I don't remember the price.

After 1-Week Course Of Clinique C10 Brightening Anti-Age Serum....... (Updated With Product Description & Short Review)

Last week, I posted about my new skin concern which is emerging spots on my cheeks. And I started on a 1-week intensive treatment with Clinique C10 Brightening Anti-Age Serum which I received as part of a GWP. The actual treatment course should be of 6-week duration.

Let's speak a bit on the product..... (Updated on March 25, 2010 at 9.30AM**)

**From the brochure in the box: What's so different about this anti-aging serum?
With a fresh burst of Vitamin C, this high-potency treatment brings new brightness to time-tarnished skin. Helps boost natural collagen production for a firmer, smoother tone. skin looks lifted lines and wrinkles seem to fade. Intensified Black-Out Yeast Complex along with skin-fortifying ingredients goes beyond brightening to strengthen skin's resistance to future darkening. Skin enjoys greater clarity, more even texture and tone with a softer, smoother feel.

Lightweight, oil-free formula is appropriate for all Skin Types. Delivers light hydration.

**Vonvon's Review

I tried this serum mainly for its brightening and spot treatment effect, and for only 1 week.

The serum is white, slightly lucent in color and its consistency is slightly thick, dispensed via a dropper. As with Clinique products, it's fragrance-free but I did detect a slight hint of scent, somewhat herbal, which could be from the Black-Out Yeast Complex, nothing unpleasant, just a scent. And you know I am not too bothered by scent.

For such a short duration of usage, I can't gauge for the effects of firming and fading wrinkles. Though I can say that my skin did appear brighter, but my skin has so far been quite OK, except for some occasional break-out which, without early treatment with my 'HG 24-hour zit cure' can become quite pesky and takes a long time to heal and fade. That'll be another post.
I do have my dull skin days, of course. And I noticed overall, my complexion has definitely improved in its clarity.**

So, the result after 1 week...........
Let's see if there is any effect on my spots......

Anyways, that 1 small bottle of serum was supposed to be used for 7 days and should be discarded after the 7th day from the first day of usage. Just a short summary of how I used it: I poured the powder, which is actually 10% Ascorbyl Glucoside (Vitamin C, in layman's term) into the serum, and mixed it till the powder dissolved. I applied about 3-4 drops from the dropper onto my palm, and spread it onto my face, paying particular attention to my cheeks where the visible spots and most of the intra-dermal melanin(from skin diagnostic test) are found. I used it twice a day after toner.

After 1 week of usage, I have to say that the spots are still there, but I don't know if it's my fantasy or what......the intensity kind of reduced slightly, and the edges of the spots seem to have faded a little.

Here's a before and after photo of my spots. Please note that I tried my best to take the photos in similar conditions, under similar natural lighting, but as I took the photos by myself with only a mirror as a guide, I may not be able to take the photos from the same exact angle. Besides, the natural lighting also varied from the 1st time I took the 'before' pix and the 'after' pix.

Before starting the serum
3 small visible brown spots marked by black asterisks....let's call it
Vonvon's Spots Triangle (if you join the 3 asterisks, you'll get a triangle, right?)

After 1-week of using the serum
The lower spot seems to have faded, but the 2 upper spots are still there, though I thought the edges of the 2 upper spots seem to have become a bit irregular. Could it be that the serum is breaking up the melanin on the surface?

OK, so now, you have seen the objective result by comparing my 'before' and 'after' photos. But I have no intention to continue this intensive treatment. I will follow up this intensive treatment with the NEW Clinique Derma White CLINICAL Brightening Essence for a duration of 4 weeks, and I shall report the result at the end of April.

Meanwhile, don't forget your sunblock, ladies!

I shall be doing reviews on some sunblocks in the coming days, hopefully, I'll find the time....

P.s. First blogged and published on March 24, 2010 at 9.58PM.

Time To Start Reading Again......A Different Genre

I used to be an avid reader when I was young and been reading so much all my life and all through my undergrad and also postgrad days. Of course, over the years, the genre which I read evolved with each stage of my life (from Enid Blyton-not really my fav), Sweet Valley series-the one with the Wakefield twins, if you think Vonvon is speaking alien, then I have to admit I am old ;P), Sidney Sheldon, Danielle Steel, etc etc. And for the past 10 years, up till about 3 years ago, I had been surrounded by thick textbooks, some even thicker than the telephone directory or Yellow Pages, and loads and stacks of scientific journals on Internal Medicine, Radiology and Oncology, of course!

Anyways, since giving birth to my little girl, I found that I have less and less time to do some serious reading. My sisters have a whole bunch of novels in their room and many times, I would bring them back to my place only to let them sit on the shelves gathering dust. Most of the time, I am just reading blogs and women's and beauty mags.

Hubby's been buying me some beauty-related books from Amazon recently and some US version of Cosmopolitan mags..... may be I should start reading again.......if only I can find some time, or rather, as a friend of mine put it, reading is about making time for it.....

Think shouldn't have any problem browsing through the mags, in fact, already went through them and have some interesting articles to share with you......

These are not new books in the market, but Hubby thought they would make an interesting read for me......

Meanwhile.....my time is being taken up by my little girl again....she has been pretty edgy and whiny these few days..... *sigh....
