Dinner Look: NARS Dogon Duo Eyeshadow, MAC By Candlelight, et al; Outfit Of The Night

Again, it's been ages since I posted a look that I have done. Of course, that doesn't mean that I didn't wear any makeup during those times. In fact, all the photos are just lying dormant in the many folders untouched. ;)

OK, here's a look I did last weekend to a dinner I attended with Hubby. :D It was such a rare occasion that I got to go out with Hubby sans Princess. So decided to dress up.....

Pea Coat from GAP
But I didn't wear this to the dinner after all, as it was quite a warm night and I decided to settle for an Anne Klein bolero-like cardi. (Didn't have a photo wearing that Anne Klein piece, though, because I didn't wear that either.)

Look Of The Night

Benefit Silky Powder Eyeshadow in Fishnets for the brows;
Benefit Creaseless Cream Eyeshadow in R.S.V.P on the lids as base;
NARS Dogon Duo Eyeshadow (Black all over the lids and taupe shade layered on top of the black except the outer corner, dust the taupe lightly below the brow as highlight, line the lower lash line and waterline with the taupe shade as well);
Estee Lauder Sumptuous Bold
Volume(TM) Lifting Mascara for the upper and lower lashes.

MAC Prep+Prime Skin Base;
Juice Beauty Perfecting Foundation in Organic Sand;
MAC By Candlelight MSF as an all over face powder, highlighter and also blush.

Make Up For Ever Fascinating Lip Gloss #16
But it didn't give too much colour to my face, so I decided to layer on Jemma Kidd Make Up School Hi-Shine Silk Touch Lip Gloss #15 Coral (but not pictured here). It gave a bit more colour without drawing away the attention from my eyes. I will have the swatches of the Jemma Kidd lipglosses up soon.

Outfit Of The Night

Dress from
It's a knee length dress, and I paired it with the gold wedges I got from New Look. :)

It's Offically Summer!

Today is the day of solstice, and marks the official start of summer! I was in Stratford-Upon-Avon yesterday, and the weather was great, sunny and warm, to the point of hot that Princess decided to remove her jumper and wore only a short-sleeved T-shirt.

The summer flowers are in bloom now........... roses and lavender, wheat is growing, berries are in abundance, and I already saw cherries sprouting on the trees, though they aren't ripe yet.

Here are some random photos of summer........... ;)

Orange roses and yellow flowers which I don't know the name of. Do you know the name of the yellow flowers? Are they buttercups?

It's a coral shade rose.

Lavenders are growing everywhere, and the scent is quite strong too. Love it!

Wheat field

The raspberry was so huge that it acted like a cup, filled with water.

Stuffed raspberries, anyone? It's blueberries inside the raspberries. ;)

My new Reebok Easytone flip flops.

Have a good day, my dear readers! :D

Ramblings & Lemmings: MAC Bloggers Collection, MAC Semi-Precious Collection; London Shopping Trip; Summer Ball

Hello everyone, this is more of a rambling post...... I have been out of the house almost everyday bringing my mum and sis around since they are visiting.

We went to London on Thursday, just a day trip or rather half-day trip. We had about 6 hours to spend there and I am glad that I managed to pick up the beauty stuffs that I had planned to get, except Giorgio Armani Eyes To Kill Eyeshadow #2 Lust Red. Both their counters in Selfridges and Harrods were out of it. I Bought #6 Khaki Pulse from the GA counter in Selfridges at Oxford Street. I went to the MAC Pro Store in Foubert's Place, picked up Surf Baby eyeshadows in Sun Blonde and Swell Baby, and happened to find Miss Behave Mineralize Blush from Quite Cute collection. There was Giggly too, but I'd prefer Sakura, but they didn't have Sakura anymore.

We went into Liberty and I wished we had more time for me to check out their beauty hall more completely. I just managed to look around for a short while and saw Eliis Faas counter, Hourglass counter, Essie, O.P.I., Korres to name a few.

Then I had to slot in some sightseeing for mum and sis, so we went to Buckingham Palace.

We went to Westfield London around dinner time, had dinner there. And I managed to sneak to the Inglot store. I think I spent only 5 minutes in the store, snapped some quick photos, and picked up a 2-pan Freedom System palette, a gold and and an orange shade (they were on 10% off), and 2 eyeshadows, a matte light yellow and a sparkly sky blue shade, which were on sale at 50% off.

And I was looking online on the upcoming MAC collections, with the Bloggers Collection coming out online this coming Tuesday. Swatches were already up in Karen's blog. My initial wish list has expanded from the initial 2 products to now, 3 of them. I want Christine's Jealousy Wakes eyeshadow, and lipglasses - Sonoran Rain and Nitro: licious 2046. I was chatting with my friend earlier before she managed to help me cut down my lemming to only 3 products, as we both are saving up for MAC Semi-Precious collection!

Ooohhh.....that's another huge collection of baked mineralize products! Yuki's Lazy Channel already had all the product photos and swatches up. Ain't going to post any photos here, you can visit her blog though it's all written in Chinese, but the product names are all in English. Well, all you need is the photos of the products and swatches with labels in English. :D

Lemmings from Semi-Precious collection include, but not limited to............Mineralize Eyeshadows - Hint of Sapphire, Golden Gaze (or Glaze?), Faux Gold, Blue Sheen, Dark Indulgence; Mineralize Blushes - Warmth Of Coral and Feeling Flush; MSFs - Semi Precious Quartz and Semi Precious Pearl.

And I think I should get some rest now, as I will have a dinner to attend with Hubby this evening. Perhaps, I should slap on a thick layer of Laneige Sleeping Pack before going to bed......and go work on my nails later in the morning................

Have a nice weekend!

July '11 Magazines Freebies - RED & Marie Claire

This month , the July issues of some UK magazines offer really awesome freebies.

RED magazines have 3 different shades of Jemma Kidd Make Up School Hi-Shine Silk Touch Lipgloss to choose from - 15 Coral, 17 Petal and 18 Perfect Red(an exclusive shade created for RED magazine readers, and also my favourite of the lot!). Well, needless to say, I bought 3 copies of the magazine for the 3 different lipglosses. For £3.80 per magazine, and the lipgloss is worth £14 each! You do the Maths, aren't they good deals?

Marie Claire has freebies from Inika, an organic cosmetic brand from Australia. There is a choice of either Inika Mineral Eyeliner or Eyeshadow, both worth a total of
£23.50. Each copy of the magazine costs £3.60. And what's even better, I found out that Costco sells all these magazines at 20% off the printed price for current and past month magazines! YAY! So I got 2 copies of Marie Claire for the eyeliner and eyeshadow for £2.88 each! But too bad, I didn't see any RED magazine anymore. And if only I'd known, I would have purchased the 3 RED magazines from Costco, and could have saved at least £2+!

And Glamour magazines for July have Benefit freebies - 6ml of Benetint, 6ml of Posietint or 6ml of High Beam. And each magazine costs only
£2. And Costco had plenty of them still last week. But I didn't buy any Glamour magazine. ;)

Nails Of The Day(NOTD): China Glaze Summer Escape 2011 - Electric Pineapple; Review, Swatches

Here's the NOTD of China Glaze Summer Escape Electric Pineapple nail polish.

China Glaze Summer Escape Electric Pineapple nail polish swatch
3 coats

Electric Pineapple is a lemon yellow shade with a hint of green undertone. Actually there is nothing too 'electric' about this shade. If it were to be called 'electric', I would have expected it to be a bright striking shade. But this shade is rather muted, probably due to its matte cream yet glossy finish. And if it were to be called 'pineapple', then it would be an unripe pineapple. LOL! Believe me, I have seen and eaten enough pineapple from when I was young till now to know how a ripe pineapple would look like.

So, to me, perhaps it should be called 'Electric Lemon'? :P

OK, enough jokes for the morning......
So, yes, Electric Pineapple is more of a lemon yellow shade, with a hint of green. It kinda reminds me of Princess' Crayola in green yellow and once upon a time, the colour of the Austrian Airlines Business Class toiletry pouch. ;) It has a cream and glossy finish.

And Hubby likes this colour a lot too. He describes it as "fresh, yet soothing, draws attention but doesn't demand it and very cheerful"!

It has that nail polish smell but it's quite light. I sniffed it when I opened the bottle, but after a while, the smell doesn't stay.

The consistency is quite runny. When I was applying it, some of the polish from the handle actually dripped onto my clothes. The first coat applied quite streaky and uneven with some sheer areas (see photos below). It took about 5 minutes to dry out (partly) before I applied the 2nd coat which was still slightly streaky. Normally, I would stop at 2 coats for most nail polishes that I had tried in the past. Because I know no matter how many coats I apply, all the house work and washing would scratch and chip it before I could even finish this post.
But I did a 3rd coat anyways. And I was glad I did. The end result is a nice opaque glossy finish which Hubby likes very much, and Princess likes it too! :D

By the way, after it dried out completely, there were some tiny bubbles.

China Glaze nail polishes are supposed to be 3-free.

With 1 coat

With 1 coat, you can see the unevenness and how streaky it applied.

With 2 coats

With 2 coats, it covers the nails better, but if you look closely, you can still see some unevenness.

With 3 coats

With 3 coats, unless you squint and look very closely, I am quite happy with the finish.

I am wearing it for the 2nd day now and I haven't seen any chips.

Have a nice day!

Photos: China Glaze Summer Escape 2011 Nail Polish Collection

This is another belated birthday pressie from my 2nd sister. Thanks, sis! :)

I know it's a bit late, and many blogs have spoken about the China Glaze Island Escape Collection, but my sis got it for me via a spree in Malaysia, and I had to wait for my mum and sis to bring it to me when they came to the UK.

But actually, Summer is just about beginning over here. Well, we had some pseudo-Summer in the past months or so.....and some really rainy and wet weather. Today, the mercury rises to about 24 degrees Celcius, more perhaps. :)

So here you go........... China Glaze Island Escape the shades of the rainbow, as Princess puts it. When I opened up the box containing these 6 polishes, I just took them out randomly and right away, Princess spotted the 'rainbow' and rearranged them in the R-O-Y-G-B-, ok...the last one was purple.

I am wearing Electric Pineapple at the moment, and if this post is published without any problem, and I don't lose any comment (as I heard there was some Blogger problem again over the weekend), I will try to post up the Electric Pineapple NOTD and review later in the evening.

Swatches of Sleek Makeup Mediterranean Collection Monaco i-Divine Eyeshadow Palette

It seems that there is a lot of Google searches on the Sleek Mediterranean Collection Monaco i-Divine Eyeshadow Palette these 2 days that brought new visitors to my little blog here. :)

So here are the swatches I made. Of course, there are plenty of blogs out there who have done swatches of the Monaco palette, but I only bought mine a few days when it was launched. Apparently the price was raised to
£6.90. But there wasn't any label of the new pricing or whatsoever on the display and shelf, so when the girl at the till rang up £6.90 for the Monaco palette, I insisted on them showing me the new pricing, but since their product brochure or whatever didn't show the new pricing, they honored the lower price of £6.49 of the usual permanent palettes which had their price tag on the shelf.

I will review the palette later, as my Mum and sis will be arriving in a few hours time, and my house is still in a mess......

Swatches & Review: Sleek Makeup Mediterranean Collection Santorini Blush

When I saw that Sleek will be coming out with a Mediterranean Collection for summer and there will be a blush called Santorini, even though it's a bright almost-neon pink shade, I knew I have to get that blush. :) Because I had spent my honeymoon at the Mediterranean and in particular, Santorini, and I have been longing to go back to Oia in Santorini since! Santorini just brings back all the memories........*dreamy eyes......

Sleek Mediterranean Collection June'11 Santorini Blush

OK, back to reality.......

I haven't the chance to play with Santorini blush yet, as in apply it on my cheeks, but I have made some swatches of it and thought of sharing with you now.

Instead of the usual black Sleek packaging, Santorini blush packaging has a picture of some sort of harbour printed on it, but I try to recall which part of Santorini this is and couldn't quite place it. I showed it to Hubby and asked him if he can remember which part of Santorini this is. Well, we suppose it's just a picture. Perhaps, it would be nice if Sleek would have put some picture more characteristic of Santorini. Nothing elaborate, may be some white buildings with blue domed roof? ;)

Sleek Mediterranean Collection June'11 Santorini Blush

This is a matte blush of bright (fuchsia) pink colour with blue undertone. The colour appears very intense in the pan and is somewhat neon-like (but I couldn't capture it with my camera). Its pigmentation, like all Sleek blushes, is very good.
Although it looks very bright, it has a semi-opaque finish with good colour pay-off.
On the pan, it feels smooth to touch but it has a hard texture with no fall-out when swiped.

I would suggest to use a light hand using a duo fibre brush to apply this blush.

I'll try to play with it later today and let you know how it goes and the wear time.

Haul: Sleek Makeup Mediterranean Collection - Santorini Blush & i-Divine Monaco Eyeshadow Palette

Sleek MakeUp Mediterranean Collection was launched a couple days ago, and apparently the Monaco i-Divine eyeshadow palette was already sold out online. When I went into Superdrug to pick up the eyeshadow palette and the Santorini Blush, well, that was the last Santorini blush on the shelf (I wasn't sure if there were more in the drawers) but there were still quite a number of the Monaco i-Divine eyeshadow palette.

Anyways, I am happy that I got what I had planned to get since sneak peeks of the collection came out on some beauty blogs which had received the whole collection earlier.
