My Birthday Look

So, now I can officially classify myself as mid-thirties....oh, dear, may be still early-thirties? ;)

This was a simple look I wore yesterday for my birthday. It was a cold, wet and grey day, I tell you. Nonetheless, that didn't hamper it. Though, please forgive the huge bags under my eyes, having awakened before 8am by Princess who insisted that she would make me the best birthday breakfast ever, but with my help, of course! ;)

I was trying out the new (not so new, perhaps?) Estee Lauder Invisible Fluid Makeup which I got a 10-day sample of, in 2WN1, for the second day. And I was also wearing the new Revlon Colorburst(TM) Lip Butter in 015 Tutti Frutti.

Photos: 17 Cosmetics Eyeshadow Palettes

This is rather late, and Summer is almost here. But I haven't been blogging throughout Spring...well, almost.

So, just to share some pretty little things with you......

Seriously, though the term has ended, there are just things to do everyday....loads of them. It doesn't help much that I am feeling kinda lazy, well, lazy to turn on my laptop to do the photo-cropping and blogging, of course. Have been surfing the Net with the iPad, and slowly forgetting the positions of the keys on the laptop keyboard. :P

And I am also busy cleaning and tidying up my place, for our guests from across the pond arriving next week!

These 2 eyeshadow palettes are from the Spring collection of Boots 17 Cosmetics - limited edition though. The rose design sort of reminds me Dior-esque. :) It costs GBP5.99 per palette, but when I got them it was 3 for 2 offer in Boots. So I paid GBP11.98 for 3 palettes. Of course, I'd choose the 3rd item to be of the same value, right? ;) I am planning to give the extra one to a friend, still haven't decided on who though.

And I am positive that I did some swatches but I couldn't find the photos. Sorry.

Overall, the eyeshadows are OK. They are a bit on the sheer side with moderate pigmentation.

It's the weekend.... and I'll be another year older tomorrow..... :D

Nails Of The Day (NOTD): Rimmel London I Love Lasting Finish Nail Polish in 280 Sunshine - Review, Swatches

I got a whole bunch of Rimmel nail polishes from a swap with my friend some time last year. But I haven't used any. In fact, since January this year, I have not put on any nail polish for almost 3 months, just to let my nails rest and have a breather.

Because of the dreary grey weather here for the past one month and more, I decided to bring out this bright summery yellow polish by Rimmel from the I Love Lasting Finish range, called Sunshine 280.

This is my first experience with Rimmel nail polish, and I have to say it wasn't quite what I expected.

So the color is a beautiful bright warm yellow and it delivers a great deal of pigment. But somehow I find the texture is a bit too thick and not that easy to control. If I swiped too much off on the edge of the bottle, it didn't apply too well and become somewhat streaky, but applying too much at once, it would pool on the sides and even tips of the nails. I ended applying 3 layers to get some sort of even application. But by then, the whole thing became too thick and it pooled. And it took a while to dry.

Sigh....

And is it long lasting as claimed by the Lasting Finish range? Well, I don't know. Because I didn't like the end result after 3 layers, so I applied a layer of transparent glitter on top just to hide the unevenness. And it didn't chip until the 3rd day. But again I have to stress that I am very rough and vigorous with my hands with frequent hand washing.

And after removing it, It does stain my nails slightly yellow.

It costs GBP2.99 and available in Boots, Superdrug and some chemists.

UK Magazine Freebies For May 2012 (June Issues), And Others

In the UK, from time to time, their magazines would give out some really nice freebies. Last month, in April, none of the magazines that I usually bought gave out any freebie, but just a small sample sachet of the new Clarins firming cream.

But this month, which are the June issues of various magazines (magazines in the UK are published a month ahead), there are some really awesome freebies. I think I have missed out on the InStyle magazine offer which offers a full-sized Nails Inc nail polish worth GBP11 and the magazine costs a mere GBP3.70 or GBP3.80! And there are 3 shades to choose from. All are in beautiful summer pastel hues. I don't see any copy of Instyle in Tesco anymore.

This month, Easy Living magazine (GBP2.90 per copy), which I have not bought before, is giving out Rituals Body Scrub or Body Cream, and needless to say, I got 2 copies of the magazine for the scrub and body cream each. Both of the freebies total GBP10.

Marie Claire (GBP3.70 per copy) for this month is giving out a choice of 2 The Body Shop Lip & Cheek Stain worth GBP10 each. I picked the one called Bronze Glimmer, the other being Rose Pink.

While next month's Marie Claire which will be going on sale on 31 May will be giving out Ciate nail polish worth GBP9 each, and there will be 3 shades to choose from. And I'll hit the Tesco magazine section the first in the morning on that day.

Below are some of the magazine freebies I had collected in the past month.

Marie Claire in March gave out Neal's Yard Remedies Rehydrating Rose Daily Moisture lotion (45ml) worth GBP8 each.

Balance Me Super Moisturising Body Wash from last Summer.

So, finally the academic year is almost over, students are preparing for their exams, and now that leaves me a little bit more free time to do other things including blogging. I had thought I could blog during the Spring/Easter break but I was down with some really nasty bug that confined me to bed for as long as I could remember. I mean, seriously, from a sore throat, then my sinusitis was exacerbated, perhaps with a little hay fever thrown in....my, even right now, as I am typing this, I still have some residue throat irritation and cough. And the fact that it's been raining and cloudy and grey for almost the whole of April, like more than 35 days of rain and cloudiness without seeing the sun..... its really depressing. No wonder Seasonal Affective Disorder, see even the abbreviation is SAD, is so prevalent here!

But we did take a trip down to the Southwest of England, to the Lizard Peninsula for a little 'caravan' holiday and the seaside, stuffing myself silly with all the cream tea, scones and oh-so-fresh clotted cream. And we went to London last week for the Olympics Test Hockey games at the Olympic Park, Riverbank Arena to be exact, and I am so in love with the colors of the field, bight shocking pink and blue!

I'll crop some of the photos and post about my trips soon. :)
